Seedlings of Hope Nursery

About the Project

The Seedlings of Hope Nursery will establish a dedicated facility for germinating seeds collected from mother trees within local forests. This nursery will serve as a central hub for nurturing saplings until
they are ready to be transplanted. By focusing on native species, as well as endangered species, the nursery will ensure that reforestation projects maintain the ecological integrity and biodiversity of the area. This nursery will provide free trees and advice to people interested in starting their reforestation projects.

Goals

• To germinate and grow native species saplings for reforestation efforts.

• To support community-led reforestation projects by providing healthy, locally-sourced saplings at no cost.

• To educate the community on the importance of native flora and reforestation techniques through hands-on involvement in the nursery.

To provide a means to propagate and re-establish endangered plant species within their natural range.

To establish a network of volunteers that collect seeds and saplings that are needed for the nursery project.

Impacts

• Direct restoration of deforested and degraded lands with native species, enhancing biodiversity.

• Increased community engagement in environmental conservation, creating a network of local environmental stewards.

• Strengthened resilience of local ecosystems against climate change and habitat loss.

Project Progress

The Seedlings of Hope Nursery is officially underway! We’ve completed a detailed construction and architectural plan for the nursery building and have already designated and are preparing the building site. We have brought in water and are working on electrical power. These foundational steps bring us closer to creating a dedicated space where native seeds—collected from mother trees in our area's forests—will be nurtured into strong, healthy saplings ready to be shared with the community for local reforestation efforts in our area.

What we need the funds for:

  • Land preparation such as tractor work and laying base material for access roads and a parking area.

  •  We need funding for the construction of the nursery structure and bathroom facilities.

  • Materials for raised planting beds, a composting zone.

  • Installation of water lines, and solar utilities.

  • Planting tools, planting supplies like bags and organic fertilizers.

  • Fencing for protection.

  • Funds and support for volunteers and personnel who will help maintain and run the nursery, as well as seed collection in our forests. 4
